TEACHER & STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK

THIS WEEK May 1 - 5 is Staff Appreciation Week!

The PTO planned many events for the week, including giveaways, food, treats and more. If you haven’t already, please consider donating to this very important cause on the website or sending them a Venmo @liljapto (on the “Businesses” tab, and noting “teacher appreciation”. )

There is also one final touch that is always the most meaningful for teachers and that is messages from their students. Please use this form to submit comments, tell a story, etc. We are going to create big posters for the teachers lounge next week and it is truly a teacher favorite that is worth the effort. It is the icing on the cake for them!

INCOMING KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION

Incoming kindergarten students and parents are invited to attend an informational session at school. Families will bring students to the lobby to check in.

Students will spend time in a classroom with teachers and future kindergarteners, while parents meet with school personnel for an overview of kindergarten at Lilja. At the end of their 40 minute session, students will be escorted back to the lobby to reunite with families.

Join us for a spring dance this Friday evening! Note this is NOT a drop off event, a parent/caregiver will need to be present with their child(ren). Entry is free but drinks and snacks will be available for purchase!

LILJA MOSIAC MURAL PROJECT

Sepi Golestani, Lilja's art teacher, along with artist Joshua Winer, have been hard at work with the entire Lilja student population to create a mosaic mural that will adorn the front of Lilja Elementary School near the bus loop.

Over the past two weeks, the art room has transformed into a mosaic workshop, students engaged in the hand-on process of making this collaborative mosaic mural together!

Along with grant funding, the PTO is excited to be able to use a portion of the Lilja Ranch profits towards this beautiful project that will be a permanent feature at Lilja school. Thank you for your support!

MARATHON JUMP START WITH MS. FAHEY

On Sunday April 2nd 10am-12pm NEF is partnering with Natick Parks and Recreation to hold a family fitness event to celebrate Ms. Fahey’s marathon run. The event will consist of stations with fitness-related activities for kids to complete. Kids will check off 26 stations in order to earn a ‘marathon’ prize.

EARTH DAY COMMUNITY CLEAN UP
April 30th, 1-3 pm
This activity is part of EcoNatick's Earth Day all Around Natick celebration, April 29-30. All ages are welcome!

Meeting Location: Natick AMVETS Post 79, 79 Superior Drive, Natick (parking available for this special event in the AMVETS lot) Drive, bike, scoot, or walk to join us!

What to wear: Comfortable clothes for clean-up activities. Feel free to bring gloves. All other supplies will be provided.

Connect and serve with SPARK Kindness, Keep Natick Beautiful, Natick AMVETS Post 79, and the Natick Rotary Club at our community clean-up to improve the natural environment along the Cochituate Rail Trail in the area of AMVETS, from Rt. 9 to Rt. 30. Help with trail and shoreline clean-up, beautification activities around AMVETS. Connect with neighbors, enjoy nature, and help us take care of this special place for recreation, right in our own backyard. RSVPs aren't required but are encouraged to help us plan! RSVP HERE

WANTED: RAISE CRAZE COORDINATOR

Here is a great chance to get involved with the PTO in a fundraiser that is unlike any other. Raise Craze empowers our children and puts them in charge of their own success. The program provides an online platform that enables students to set up secure, custom websites where they request donations via email (from friends and family, near and far). During the fundraiser, students pay it forward by completing Acts of Kindness for others. They spend time serving, not selling. Regardless of ability to raise money, this inclusive approach allows everyone to participate because EVERYONE CAN SPREAD KINDNESS! They are sponsored for their acts of service and give back while they earn.

We have lots of exciting ideas for Raise Craze and are looking for a volunteer to run this program this spring. Lots of tools and support will be available! Reach out to pto@liljapto.org if you’re interested.

LOST AND FOUND

POTENTIAL NPS SCHEDULE CHANGES

The Natick School Committee is considering a change to the school opening and closing times, as well as having one early dismissal every week. They will be taking public comment on the proposed options at their regularly scheduled School Committee meeting, scheduled to begin at 7pm on Monday, March 20th, or via email at schoolcommittee@natickps.org.

These are the four options being considered:

If you would like to attend the School Committee Meeting in person you can do so at the Town Hall (Third Floor). If you would like to attend via Zoom, a link will be available within the March 20th Agenda, which will be posted HERE when it is available.

The Committee will take an initial vote on the proposed options on Wednesday, March 22nd.

NATICK LITTLE LEAGUE REGISTRATION - ENDS NEXT WEEK

Register for Natick Little League's Baseball & Softball programs by March 20th! Programs are for students Kindergarten through 10th grade. Details and a registration link can be found on the Natick Little League Website https://naticklittleleague.org/. We hope to see you on the field this spring!

NATICK DRAMA WORKSHOP - THIS WEEKEND!

The Wild, Wild, Wildest West is a hilarious musical spoof of many of Hollywood’s Westerns featuring a toe-tappin’, heel-clickin’ score by Bill Francoeur! Slick and wealthy Richard Coldheart (“Oh, that’s Rich!”) must marry Polly Wanda Cracker to control the Cracker property. However, it’s Polly’s sister, Prunella, who wants to marry him! Meanwhile, our hero, Sheriff Wayne John, has his hands full surviving the hilarious antics of well-meaning but not-too-bright Deputy Doowrong. When a bundle of villains, including Snydley Dastardly, Kid Kid and Calamity Jan, attempts to take over Low Humidity Chasm (Aren’t you sick and tired of Westerns taking place in Dry Gulch Canyon?), things really go crazy!

This family-friendly show runs approximately 2 hours including a 15-minute intermission. Advance tickets are $7/student & seniors, $10/adults. Tickets at the door are $10/student & seniors, $15/adults. Seating is general admission and doors open 30 minutes before showtime. Concessions are cash only and proceeds benefit the Friends of Natick Drama Workshop scholarship fund.

SCRUB-A-DUB FUNDRAISER

Welcome back from February break! The snow is turning grey and it’s the perfect time to stock up on Scrub-a-Dub car wash passes during our March fundraiser!

For every $10 purchased through the Lilja fundraising site, you’ll get 1 coupon for an Express Wash (retail value $11) via your email. Should you want to upgrade your wash, you can simply pay the difference when you are at Scrub-a-Dub. Easy!

There is no limit as to how many washes you can purchase. Lilja gets 50% of all washes purchased during our campaign and gift certificates are valid at any Scrub-a-Dub location in Maine, RI, or MA, so the link can be shared with friends and relatives too!

2022-2023 YEARBOOKS ON SALE NOW!

Get excited! The 2022-2023 yearbooks are on sale now! Yearbooks are a wonderful keepsake of the Lilja school year. Whether your child is in Kindergarten or a higher grade, the yearbook is full of photos from classrooms, specialists and school events. Pages in the back will have space for your child to exchange autographs and messages with their friends, so they can have something to look back on in years to come.

All yearbooks will be delivered in June before the end of the school year.

Note: 4th graders will be issued yearbooks separately, you DO NOT need to purchase a copy for your 4th grader.

Lilja Parent Kristen Pope Runs for Select Board

Hi Lilja Parents! My name is Kristen L. Pope and I would be humbled to represent you on Natick’s Select Board. It’s important to have the representation of a mother on our Select Board. My husband Richard and I chose to move to Natick almost six years ago. At the time, I was eight months pregnant with our daughter Lily. The commuter rail, good schools, affordability, a cool downtown and diversity were all the elements we needed to make Natick home.
Not long after moving to Natick, my husband and I both got involved in serving our town on boards. I’ve had the privilege of serving on Natick’s Personnel Board. I’ve also served as an advisor to a youth-led coalition called Rise Natick focused on anti-racist principles and I currently serve on the United Way-Tri County board.
Throughout my adult life, servant leadership and collaboration with teams and board members is a principle I’ve followed and modeled. Natick is facing complex challenges and as a select board member, I will prioritize listening, collecting facts and data, collaborating with the other select board members and coming to sound and sustainable decisions that benefit everyone.
My platform has six interconnected positions: Representation, Town Governance, Smart Economic Growth, Affordable Housing, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and Budget. Read more at my website: www.kristenfornatick.org
My experience as a board member who knows the power of skilled collaboration, as a business owner who, with a team of talented people, pivoted our business model and tripled our revenues during the height of he pandemic, as an expert communicator of almost 20 years who knows how to listen, as a working mother of a young child in the school system, and as an engaged citizen–these experiences position me to effectively represent Natick on the select board. SUPERBOWL SQUARES

Get your gamble on and buy a Superbowl square! $20 each, randomly assigned, winners at the end of each quarter. 50% of the proceeds will be venmo'd to the winner and the other 50% will be given to the Lilja PTO. If the winning square is blank at the time of the game kick off the total for that quarter will be given to the PTO. This is a super easy way to have fun with something you are going to do anyway (eat bar food, yell loudly, drink beer, oh and watch football) and support the PTO at the same time! Grid will be released to all square purchasers before the game.

LILJA RANCH SUPPORTS TWO MAJOR PROJECTS

Thanks again to everyone for making Lilja Ranch a huge success! We are thrilled to share that with the success of the event we are able to help put funding towards two major projects!

We have been working with staff and DPW to turn the under utilized inner courtyard into a beautiful garden space that can be enjoyed by the entire Lilja community. Teachers have in mind using this space for social-emotional-learning, meditation, and community building.

Sepi Golestani, Lilja's art teacher, along with artist Joshua Winer, presented their vision of a large mosaic mural to adorn the front of Lilja Elementary School near the bus loop. Along with grant funding, we are excited to be able to use a portion of our Lilja Ranch profits towards this project. Sepi and Joshua will work with the entire Lilja student population to create a beautiful mosaic that will be a permanent feature at Lilja school.

ELEMENTARY ENRICHMENT

The Elementary Enrichment Program runs for two 8-week sessions per year. Classes are designed and led by NPS staff and focus on hands-on exploration and collaborative fun, and open to students who attend the school at which each course is offered. To all that participated in our Lilja Ranch auction, THANK YOU! The auction closed on Sunday with over $27,500 in winning bids. Your support of this event will allow us to enrich Lilja’s programs and realize dreams for the students and their educators. Lilja is more than our children’s school; it is a valuable part of our community.

To our more than 200 community sponsors and donors: you helped make our bid list bigger and better than we could have imagined. Your generosity was unbelievable, and we are eternally grateful to each and every one of you. And to all our friends and family who cheered us along the way, thank you.

BOKS WINTER SESSION

BOKS signups are still open! The program will run every **Monday and Wednesday morning from 7:40 - 8:20am at Lilja**. The next session starts on Monday February 27th and ends Wednesday, May 24th, and the cost is $60 for the session.

NATICK BEGINNER SOFTBALL LEAGUE

Are you a parent of a 1st or 2nd grader who might be interested in softball? Join the Natick Beginner Softball League! Practices on Wednesday evenings and practice + games on Saturday afternoons. We encourage children of all skill levels to join us! There is a heavy emphasis on skills development and fundamentals with a focus on introducing the game and just having fun.
